Very nice-hard as a Rock (but a real softie ... so deep within ... ) You know what I figured out is so striking about it (not only the eyes appearing as the same hue of the sky there) but it is otherwise crafted like a tombstone--maybe they ought to place this on his final rest area ...smoking smiley

I have several favorites but will start with these:

Long time no see, maurice, welcome back!

There is one sculpture which I prefer: the 1845 Beethoven statue at the Bonn Marketplace around the corner of the Beethoven Haus.

For me it has to be the bronze bust made by Klein (also on display in the Beethovenhaus). Given that it was made from a life mask, it is considered perhaps as being the truest likeness of Beethoven. When I was there a couple of years ago I stood transfixed, and was torn between trying to touch one of his pianos (under the baleful glare of the museum guards) and trying to work out how I could steal the bust. My plan is now complete. If you happen to read in the press about a stolen bust of Beethoven you never read this post. OK? If the police come knocking, I'll say it was JB.

Then it will be in my collection of similar busts of Brahms, Mahler, Alban Berg, Schönberg and other lesser geniusses.

I like a little joke from time to time, and of course I could have written "and other lesser geniusses than Beethoven". smiling smiley

Here are my two favorite Beethoven statues here in Vienna. The first one is located near the Hilton hotel and the second photo is the Beethoven statue located in Heiligenstadt Park which isn't far from where I live.

I saw the one in Heiligenstadt when I was there with class in 2002. We paused a while in front of it while our music teacher told us about Beethoven. (This music teacher, by the way, also instigated us to climb on a Brahms statue which is also located in that park, for taking a photo, because he deemed that Brahms looked funnygrinning smiley )

Actually, the only statue in Heiligenstadt Park is that one of Beethoven. The Brahms statue you mentioned is located at Karlsplatz opposite the Musikverein. Is this the statue you all climbed up on?
