Ah yes - ever the faithful housekeeper! ;-)
But I hope it's wild, not farmed - tastes much better, and fewer toxins - Beethoven didn't have to worry about that sort of thng.

I wonder why, after Robert Schumann died, Johannes Brahms didn't ask Clara if she would marry him. eye rolling smiley

Maybe because he knew she was still Robert's. (They came together to Rosemary Brown.)

Well, as you probably know, in France (and Germany, Spain and I believe most of continental Europe) Christmas is celebrated on the 24th.

On the menu tonight :

Appetizer : fresh figs with parma ham, served with a crémant d'alsace;
Entrée : gambas with avocado, salad and coriander, with a Côtes du Rhône blanc de blancs;
Main course : venison steaks with pommes dauphines, with a red Minervois-la-Livinière;
Dessert :exotic fruit bûche.

That said, as an "Anglo" I do insist on having the traditional British 25th version, for which I shall be cooking a capon (simply a castrated and fattened-up rooster) with thyme and lemon, roast potatoes and green beans. I like white wine with my poultry, so it's going to be with a Vouvray.

Bon appetit, everybody. And of course, Merry Christmas !

Vive Beethoven!

Very elaborate and appetising, Philip. In Belgium, grand holiday meals are offered for the "réveillon de Noèl" at midnight (and after) on the 24th-25th of December. Likewise for New Year's Eve ("réveillon de Nouvel An"). Restaurants will not serve them before midnight. I'm not familiar with how they do in Strasbourg, since I presume they probably follow Alsatian traditions. - In any event - Merry Christmas - Vrolijke Kerstmis - Joyeux Noèl - Fröhliche Weihnachten to one and all!

Most of them are assuredly snowbound.
